CHARITY AT THE HEART OF FREEMASONRY
Charity is one of the core principles of Freemasonry. Every Freemason is encouraged to support those in need — not only within our own community but across society at large. Through individual giving, Lodge fundraising, and national Masonic initiatives, Freemasons contribute millions each year to both Masonic and non-Masonic causes.
What We Support
In the Eastern Division, our members regularly support:
- Local hospitals, clinics, and hospices
- Educational and youth initiatives
- Programmes tackling poverty, hunger, and unemployment
- National and international disaster relief
- Support for fellow Freemasons and their families in need
We give our time, our energy, and our resources — and we do so quietly, without seeking praise.
LOCAL IMPACT
Our Lodges work closely with local organisations and community leaders to identify where help is needed most. Whether that means delivering food parcels, providing bursaries, supporting health initiatives, or sponsoring a sports day — our members are always ready to serve.

While Freemasonry does not solicit public donations, we welcome support for our charitable programmes and invite all Freemasons and their families to participate.

The District Grand Lodge of South Africa, Eastern Division, comprises 22 Lodges spread across the Eastern Cape. Each Lodge has its own unique character, history, and membership — but all are united by the values of Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Service.
